My newest project...

I was thinking that lilacs and pointe shoes (the peachy ones) would make a pretty combo. Peach and lilac... Maybe I can do it again in the summer with legit peaches. Do you think roses would be pretty? The light pink ones? That's probably overkill. Maybe just do a flowery-fruity-pretty-splosion and get it all out of the system. hmm...

I do like this one.

I actually like this one, haha. I fixed it up some- imagine smoother skies and no blarg mountains. :)

Barbie...?

I don't know about this one.... I think it had a good lead, but then.... it just didn't come out right. Maybe I'll try it again sometime. That's an unfinished picture up top, btw. I'll upload a good one soon.

Patriotism Picture

I don't have any finished pictures, but I think I might have some in another week. This was a colored pencil drawing for a patriotism art contest thing.

Symposium Recap

This is the Wyoming Art Symposium. Look at all of that. You never really get to see all of it, but you see a lot. I think there's ~4,000 pieces here.

Sofia's Portugese Friend
In-Progress at the NWC stand
I liked this quite a bit.
Very curious. The lips in the middle are cut outs from magazines.
CHAIN MAIL!!! Can I get a couple of these?
So this one was funny. Scroll down.
They're the same. If you look in the corner, you can even see the painting.
So, apparently, these two artists used the same model. One took a photo and one did a painting. The painting ribboned, and the photo did not. They're both very nice, but I think the painting has more... character or excitement or something. Which do you prefer?

This was my favorite 2-D piece. Watercolor.

I'm kinda spamming your dashboard.

This is art symposium week. Apparently, it's the 3rd largest collection of art in the nation- when it's all assembled. It's pretty awesome.

At any rate, this equates to having no art this week. I'll put up some pictures from symposium as we go along, but for now, I'm just going to post some ideas I have for future projects. Reminding myself, you know? Some are my photos, some are publicity shots, but they're all good practice. :)

I like drawing people. I'm not that great (with proportions and everything), but people are so... expressive and different. I mean, no one truly looks exactly the same, even identical siblings are a bit different. I'd like to go on a photoshoot this summer with people... get some good reference photos and stuff.

Spring Break is almost over.... only 5 more weeks!

I just got some new arty things... including pens and a brush pen. I'm quite excited, as in 'beyond exclamation points.' I just need to pick/develop a plot line for the mini-graphic novel.... It needs to be simple. I'll figure it out soon, maybe.

Meanwhile, just for kicks, (and pencil breaking-in) I'm thinking I'll try drawing this dress. I hate fabric, so I suppose that means I need practice. It seems like most things you hate are things you're bad at. Maybe someday I'll hate fabric less. Unlikely, but possible.

Isn't it pretty?

GIMPing

I was just screwing around in my second hour, so I decided to re-make a picture on GIMP.

A photo off Google, not mine... I wish, though :)

I sketched out the outlines, then added color. I prefer to use the pencil tool on a large setting to outline. I use the paintbrush to color, just add gobs of "paint" to the canvas. I use the smudge tool to blend it. I like to do it in layers. I have a background layer (curtain) and foreground (her). I think if I did it again, I'd go more layers, ie: face, hair, jacket

For the face, I primarily used a size 3 brush. The rest of it was mostly 5 and 7. The background started about 20 and worked down to size 9. I took the glasses off, just a little "paint" over them and some smudging.

Final Result: not quite the same, but satisfactory for a GIMP trial. :) Looking back, is it just me, or does the second picture remind you of Cate Blanchett (Galadriel)?

Weekly Drawing Prompt

This week's weekly drawing is: Easter! (no cartoon bunnies)

Ooh. Easter basket? Easter dress? Easter eggs have nice lights. OH! Great idea incoming! Maybe....

More people pencil sketches

LR #1

As I promised, this is the finished pencil sketch of this post. It's not quite how I pictured, but it's not bad. The hair is very. . . erm. . . "section-y" if you look at it from a distance. Need to work on hair.

Reunion

This is another sketch, about a year old, that I just rediscovered and finished. It looks normal sized, but it's honestly only maybe 2x3. This one was better, but the top edge is roughed up, and again I need darker darks. Eyes are disproportionate. Maybe I'll fix it later.

Holga

I made a kinda funky graphite/colored pencil/pastel out of this. It's an old Holga on a mirror. I can't find my camera usb cable at the moment, but when I do, I'll add a photo of it.

prayer flag tree

Just a fun photo I took a while back. I'd like to do something with it sometime. I think the prayer flags should be more prominent somehow, but not more colorful. ie: I want them more visible, but still faded/transparent. Oxymoronic much? Let me know if you have ideas.  :)

Old Drawing

Fetch!
It's a quick drawing I did a while ago... it's from imagination and based loosely off Goodwin from the Beka Cooper/Provost's Dog series. Colored pencil, the uniform should be black, but I didn't want to shade that...

Half-Finished Sketch

It's a semi-done pencil sketch. I think it needs darker darks.
